Sean Kim

Born in 2002, Sean (Tae Han) Kim began his musical journey with the piano at age four, cultivating a deep passion for classical music under various mentors. At nine, he started lessons with Tim Li, a renowned Canterbury College pianist and the Sotto Voce Studio head director. Under Tim's guidance, Sean achieved AMEB Grade 8 in piano and Grade 4 theory by age 13. He also learned the violin and double bass, broadening his musical foundation.

At 15, Sean joined the Queensland Young Conservatorium program, studying under Mark Griffiths and later Oleg Stepanov, a senior lecturer in Piano. His dedication earned him top prizes in the Brisbane Eisteddfod and Queensland Piano Competition.

Sean graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) (BH-MUS) from the University of Melbourne in 2024, achieving First-Class Honours under Professor Ian Holtham and Konstantin Shamray’s mentorship. He is now pursuing a Master of Music at the University of Melbourne, continuing his study with Konstantin Shamray.

Sean has significantly contributed to Melbourne's musical scene as a performer, educator, and accompanist. Recognised with prestigious scholarships such as the DW Gardiner Memorial Award and the Grace Funston Scholarship, Sean remains committed to excellence in performance, teaching, and academic pursuits.
